About Us
Huron Safe Homes for Youth is a community based resource that was established in 1988 in response to an identified service gap.
Since 1988, Huron Safe Homes for Youths Board of Directors, Staff and dedicated volunteers have endeavoured to provide support services and housing alternatives to Huron County’s youth and their families/caregivers.
Huron Safe Homes for Youth is a non-profit organization funded primarily by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services. Without the generous financial support that Safe Homes receives from Perth-Huron United Way, the County of Huron, and Individual Donations, meeting the needs of our rural youth would not be possible.
Our Mission
Huron Safe Homes for Youth recognizes that adolescence is a period of transition where youth and their families face many challenges. Unresolved difficulties may contribute to a breakdown of the family unit. The purpose of the Agency is to respond to crisis and emergency situations involving young people and their families, in an attempt to resolve difficulties, and when appropriate, restore the family unit.
Our Goals
- To support youth and their families/caregivers in developing healthy relationships
- To prevent and end youth homelessness
- To facilitate a healthy transition into adulthood
- To decrease the need for more expensive supports and services in the future

Without the generous financial support the Agency receives from Perth-Huron United Way, the County of Huron, and Individual Donations, meeting the needs of our rural youth would not be possible.

Land Acknowledgement
Huron Safe Homes for Youth acknowledges that the geographic area we support is located on the traditional lands of the Ojibwa Chippewa of the Anishnaabe group of Indigenous peoples. Huron County is on territory that is covered by Crown Treaty Number 29, known as the Huron Tract Purchase of 1827. As a community, we have the responsibility for the stewardship of the land on which we live and work. We recognize and deeply appreciate the Indigenous historic connection to this place and the agreement with the Crown of Canada to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes.
